The small-cap  jumped 2.4%.<\/p>\n<p>More volatility could be in store in the coming days ahead as investors assess the outlook for the economy, inflation, interest rates and corporate earnings amid renewed U.S.-China trade tensions. The prolonged U.S. government shutdown continues to weigh on market confidence as it stretches into a third week, adding further uncertainty for investors.<\/p>\n<p>On the economic calendar, most important will be Friday\u2019s U.S. consumer price inflation report, which is forecast to show headline annual CPI rising 3.1% year-over-year in September, accelerating from 2.9% in August.<strong><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly Economic Events\" src=\"https:\/\/d1-invdn-com.investing.com\/content\/3edd6c9ebfdbd0d714b76ad1860cf697.png\" alt=\"Weekly Economic Events\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Investing.com<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Q3 earnings season shifts into high gear, with reports expected from  and . Other high-profile companies on the agenda include , , AT&amp;T(NYSE:T), , , , , , , , , , , , , and .<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of which direction the market goes, below I highlight one stock likely to be in demand and another which could see fresh downside. Remember though, my timeframe is <em>just<\/em>for the week ahead, Monday, October 20 &#8211; Friday, Oct. 24.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Stock To Buy: Netflix<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>My pick for a &#8220;buy&#8221; this week is streaming giant Netflix, which is set to report its latest quarterly earnings after the U.S. market closes on Tuesday at 4:00PM ET. A call with co-CEO\u2019s Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters is set for 5:00PM ET.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Gatos, California-based Internet television network is in a powerful position to deliver a strong report and issue a confident outlook, driven by the successful execution of its key growth initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Market participants predict a sizable swing in NFLX stock after the print drops, according to the options market, with a possible implied move of +\/-8.0% in either direction.<strong><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Netflix Earnings Forecast\" src=\"https:\/\/d1-invdn-com.investing.com\/content\/99de9914d8bee194cb1144c7073d02ca.png\" alt=\"Netflix Earnings Forecast\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: InvestingPro<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Profit estimates have been revised upward 27 times in the last 90 days, reflecting growing confidence among analysts. Meanwhile, revenue is forecast to jump 17.2% year-over-year to $11.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Key drivers of this growth include the expansion of Netflix\u2019s ad-supported tier and its foray into live events, like sports and exclusive programming, both of which have expanded its revenue streams and subscriber base.<\/p>\n<p>Looking further ahead, Netflix\u2019s full-year guidance presents additional upside potential. The company is scheduled to report its third quarter earnings report before the stock market opens on Thursday at 7:00AM ET.<\/p>\n<p>The expected move post-earnings in the options market for AAL stock is about 7.5% up or down. Shares fell over 9% after the last earnings report came out in July.<\/p>\n<p>Underscoring several challenges facing American Airlines, 15 out of the 16 analysts surveyed by InvestingPro cut their profit estimates ahead of the print, citing soft consumer demand and a challenging outlook.<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"American Airlines Earnings Forecast\" src=\"https:\/\/d1-invdn-com.investing.com\/content\/fd27eecb080c09febd53b300d6643226.png\" alt=\"American Airlines Earnings Forecast\" width=\"\" height=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p><em>Source: InvestingPro<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wall Street sees the Fort Worth, Texas-based airliner swinging to a loss of $0.28 per share from a profit of $0.30 in the year-ago period due to weaker demand, cost pressures, and mounting operational disruptions. Meanwhile, revenue is expected to come in at $13.6 billion, representing a modest decline of 0.3% from last year, reflecting issues like delayed flights and an uncertain outlook amid trade policy concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping that in mind, management is likely to strike a cautious tone regarding the company\u2019s fiscal full-year outlook.
